22 Ultrasounds

Monday February 5th I had my twenty second ultrasound.

Most people get about 3 ultrasounds in a healthy pregnancy, one in each trimester. For me, because of my fibroids, the car accident, and my high risk pre term labor I have an abundance. I’m torn over how I feel about the amount of exposure my baby has had to ultrasound waves. I would love to have reduced the exposure to my baby, but then again I do feel like they were all (or the majority of them) were necessary. I had a lot of pain and discomfort due to fibroids the first half of my pregnancy along with random bleeding, so my fibroids needed to me monitored and measured. The car accident, even though minor, could have caused baby some issues as well. Then since the holidays I have been battling high risk of pre term labor.

It has been nice seeing my baby grow via ultrasound these past 32 weeks. Most people rarely get to see their baby and I have seen mine every step of the way.

Monday’s ultrasounds was at 32 weeks and 6 days. Baby measured 5 pounds and 2 ounces. We also saw that he had some hair!

Our baby hasn’t been very photogenic. The last two ultrasounds showed him in Frank Breech positioning. His hands and feet have been covering his face since 30 weeks. This past ultrasound he was actually holding his leg in front of his face. So needless to say he won’t show us his face for any pictures.

I did find out some promising news though. They will repeat the ultrasound next Monday at 33 weeks 6 days to check the positioning of the baby and my fluid levels. If he is still Frank Breech and not Footling Breech and my cervix exam shows that I am still only 1cm dialated then I will be able to go home at 34 weeks to finish the remainder of my pregnancy.

If I don’t go into labor on my own then I will have a scheduled Cesarean at 39 weeks along with getting my large fibroid removed.

The doctors and midwives have all been shocked that I have made it this far. I am so happy to say that baby is still in my belly cooking.
