After the minor car accident I felt ok for about a day. Thanksgiving night I started getting really uncomfortable. The next day I was getting severe pain in my lower belly and hips and constant contractions, that lasted through the weekend. I could barley walk. Monday wasn’t any better and I called out of work to follow up with my Midwife. They did several pre term labor tests and a full work up and said everything looked ok, I was low risk for pre term labor, and to just take it easy.
I went to work the next day and was nearly in tears from painful contractions every 2-3 minutes. My work sent me home for the week and told me to rest for the safety of the baby.
After the week of rest I returned to work. They lightened my schedule and case load and gave me frequent breaks. I lasted until Christmas week before the pain and contractions increased again. I was only able to work one day that week and two days the following week.
January 4th we had a blizzard. I noticed some bleeding and painful contractions. I also noticed decreased movement from Rogan. I called my Midwife and she said to eat a big meal and some sugar and lay on my side, if Rogan doesn’t move then to get to the hospital somehow in the storm. Luckily he moved!
My regularly scheduled OB appointment was the next morning so I took the trip in the tail end of the storm to go see my Midwife.
I went to an ultrasound first and Rogan was fine. My cervix was not. It went from 3cm to 1cm and was thinning quickly. I was confused because about 3 weeks before I had a full work up for pre term labor and they said my risk was low.
They wanted to give me two steroid injections to strengthen the baby’s lungs Incase he came out early. Problem was, I am allergic to prednisone so they weren’t sure how I would react. They decided it was best for me to stay in the hospital one night to watch my reaction to the injections.
I was 28 weeks and 3 days when I was admitted for observation. My boyfriend packed me a bag and spent the night with me.
